IMEC Conclave 2025

Council for International Economic Understanding

8 December 2025

The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is a significant undertaking that aims to support a new model of regional connectivity through a modern, multimodal approach. Developed as a collaborative initiative linking South Asia, the Arabian Gulf and Europe, IMEC seeks to facilitate more efficient, secure and diversified trade by integrating maritime ports, railway systems, electricity transmission, clean hydrogen infrastructure and digital platforms. It was formally announced at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi in September 2023 and has since received diplomatic support from India, the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the European Union and several other participating countries.

The IMEC Conclave held in April 2025 brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, development banks, academic experts and industry representatives, to explore the next steps for implementation. The event served as an opportunity to reflect on IMEC’s potential role in promoting long-term cooperation. Contributors highlighted the importance of establishing clear institutional arrangements, taking a phased approach to project development, and identifying early priorities that can demonstrate tangible outcomes.
